description | Ø Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD) with co-morbid bipolar affective disorder(BPAD) is not so common in children. Ø Here, we present a unique case of OCD with underlying BPAD in an adolescent girl. Ø A 13 years old girl, presented with a history of decreased food intake, increased physical exercise, repeated hand-washing behaviour from last 1 year; demanding behaviour for last 8-9 months and repeated self-harming behaviour and various repetitive acts and repetitive posturing for last 1.5 months. Ø The underlying bipolarity was unmasked by the use of anti-depressants during the time of admission. Hence it was a therapeutic challenge for us to cure the obsessive symptoms without precipitating manic switch. |
