description | INTRODUCTION: Agenesis of Corpus callosum (ACC) is a rare disorder that presents at birth (congenital), it is characterized by partial or complete absence of an area of the brain that connects two cerebral hemispheres. It is linked with psychiatric disorders, cognitive deficits, learning disabilities and developmental delays. CASE 1: A 13-year-old male was brought to OPD with c/o aggressive behaviour, school refusal and epilepsy of one week duration. History revealed delayed milestones, MRI showing partial ACC. He was treated with olanzapine and sodium valproate with significant improvement in aggression. CASE 2: A 22-year-old male was brought to OPD with c/o irritability, decreased sleep, delayed milestones, epilepsy with left sided hemiparesis in the last 3 weeks. Was treated with phenytoin and valproate for epilepsy. Birth history revealed pre- term twin delivery with birth asphyxia. He was treated with risperidone with significant improvement in behavioural abnormalities. CONCLUSION: Early diagnosis and treatment of behavioural abnormalities and epilepsy can improve the outcome and improve quality of life. |
