description | BACKGROUND: Sodium valproate and lithium carbonate are most commonly used mood stabilisers used in patients with bipolar affective disorder. Hence it is important to evaluate the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in these patients. AIM: To study and compare the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions among persons with bipolar disorder taking sodium valproate and lithium carbonate. To study if there is any association between sexual dysfunction and illness related variables. INCLUSION: BPAD diagnosed subjects under remission HDRS <7, YMRS <7 clinically stable low change in medication in past three months, aged 25 to 60 years married heterosexual relationship. EXLUSION: Sexual dysfunction before BPAD as per history given by the patient comorbid substance dependence currently using it, Mental retardation, organic psychosis, spinal cord illusions. PROCEDURE: Study will be carried out in review op of tertiary care hospital, Hyderabad informed consent will be obtained from all the study subjects before carrying out study. Convenient sampling technique is used for collection of sample subjects who met inclusion criteria will be entered into the intake proforma, Subjects will be administered Arizona sexual experience care for assessment sexual dysfunction, Brief Adherence rating scale for compliance, Lunser’s scale for assessing side effects neuroleptic medication.
