Sumario:Hemorrhoids are abnormal collections of engorged blood vessels and tissue within the anal canal or surrounding the anus. Management consists of conservative treatment or a hemorrhoidectomy, dependent on disease severity, duration, and physician discretion. Reported is a case of a 44-year-old, African American female initially treated conservatively for intero-external hemorrhoids, that later abscessed into the ischio-anal fossa and was further complicated by an infection of the deep pelvic space. This report explores conservative and surgical management of hemorrhoids, and offers recommendations for symptom management, and reducing disease progression and complications.
