Within this review, we discuss and evaluate different tools from screening to diagnosis and give insights from personal experiences, controlled clinical studies and future perspectives. Finally, we offer our novel diagnostic algorithm to screen patients with presumptive acute or chronic liver disease in the daily clinical routine.
