description | Abnormal uterine bleeding is the most frequently encountered complaint of the reproductive-age women. Heavy menstrual blood loss is responsible for interfering with women’s physical, emotional, social, and quality of life. Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUS) is a highly effective reversible form of contraception. Besides this, its role in the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), endometrial hyperplasia, early-stage endometrial cancers, and endometrial protection as a part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is very well studied. This review will revisit the role of LNG-IUS as a nonsurgical option in the management of HMB. |
