Interprofessional teams must be able to recognize and treat trauma on the frontlines and behind the scenes. Understanding, assessing, and educating staff and patients on trauma, its physical and mental effects, and using trauma-informed approaches in practices throughout the health care system is vital for nursing and the multidisciplinary team. We provide an overview of trauma and its effects and how to help patients at all levels of recovery moving forward.
