The novel was only published in France, in 1892, there are no reprints in Mexico, so it is a document that serves to analyze a narrative voice peripheral to national novels, understand the role that the writer played in European politics, before and after the fall of Maximilian I of Habsburg, and objectify his vision as a Mexican expatriate in Europe. …”
