“…The chemical structure of Mersaquinone (1) was assigned based upon data from a diversity of spectroscopic techniques including HRESIMS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR measurements. Mersaquinone (1) showed antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 3.36 μg/mL.…”

“…Three studies conducted during the mass spreading of the virus in the United States toward the end of March 2020 show that this results partially from people’s misperception of the virus’s exponential growth in linear terms and that overcoming this bias increases support for social distancing. Study 1 shows that American participants mistakenly perceive the virus’s exponential growth in linear terms (conservatives more so than liberals). …”

The silver atoms in 1 show an overall brick‐shape arrangement, where structural resemblance to the close‐packed fcc and hcp structures is realized. …”

I show that a mathematical model based on environmental stochasticity, the stochastic logistic model, quantitatively predicts the three macroecological laws, as well as non-stationary properties of community dynamics.…”

I show that some (but not all) purported cases of morphological computation do not count as specifically computational, and that those that do are solely physical computational systems. …”

“…Evidence is shown of the connections between the polytropic index, the rate of the heat absorbed by the solar wind, and the rate of change of the turbulent energy, which heats the solar wind in the inner and outer heliosphere. In particular, we: (i) show the theoretical connection of the rate of a heat source, such as the turbulent energy, with the polytropic index and the thermodynamic process; (ii) calculate the effect of the pick-up protons in the total proton temperature and the relationship connecting the rate of heating with the polytropic index; (iii) derive the radial profiles of the solar wind heating in the outer and inner heliosphere; and (iv) use the radial profile of the turbulent energy in the solar wind proton plasma in the heliosphere, in order to show its connection with the radial profiles of the polytropic index and the heating of the solar wind.…”

I show how a method developed in nutritional ecology, called the nutritional geometry framework, can help to understand the nutritional interactions of animals with their environments, by explicitly distinguishing the roles of calories, individual nutrients and nutrient balance. …”
