“…Approach to Las víctimas del chic by José Hidalgo y Esnaurrízar Abstract The purpose of this text is to make visible one of the lesser-known Mexican novels of the 19th century, Las víctimas del chic, written by the politician and conservative writer José Manuel Hidalgo y Esnaurrízar in 1892, during his exile in Europe and after his participation in the Intervention French and the Second Mexican Empire. The novel was only published in France, in 1892, there are no reprints in Mexico, so it is a document that serves to analyze a narrative voice peripheral to national novels, understand the role that the writer played in European politics, before and after the fall of Maximilian I of Habsburg, and objectify his vision as a Mexican expatriate in Europe. …”
