description | This report summarizes how the benefits for industrial partners on the LHC/HL-LHC programme can be assessed and explains the origin of these impacts. Results in this summary report form the basis for estimating the potential benefits that can emerge for industrial partners in the frame of a post-LHC particle collider project, such as a Future Circular Collider (FCC). Previous studies have highlighted that cooperation with CERN leads to a variety of benefits to the industrial partners, mainly due to learning effects, advancements of internal processes, evolution of organizational practices, increased competitiveness, expansion into new markets and countries and increased marketing effectiveness. Our multi-year studies show that there is a significant impact on the Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) of companies who co-develop with CERN or who supply customized products and services to CERN. More than 50% of the procurement volumes in the LHC/HL-LHC program are dedicated to this kind of suppliers. These findings have been confirmed relying on different statistical methodologies and data including survey data and face-to-face interviews. The findings are in line with previous related studies on the origins of the spillover effects and demonstrate that they do not change over time. The result is that there exists a positive, statistically and economically significant impact on the innovation capacity of companies that are suppliers for CERN in the area of new developments, the provisioning of tailored and adapted solutions as well as the provisioning of non-standard services. |
