CMS sub-detector, Electromagnetic Calorimeter ECAL
The Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) comprises three sections: a barrel and two endcaps, and contains 75 848 crystals of lead tungstate (PbWO4), a material which is 86% metal by weight yet completely transparent.
