| Sumario: | The construction and the properties of large ( approximately=1 m/sup 2 /) multiwire driftchambers are described. The location accuracy, which depends on the chambers and on the read-out system is sigma =0.35 mm. This number was measured with a read-out system designed for the operation of 664 wires. A detailed analysis of sigma is given. A set of 7 large driftchambers was operated in a magnetic spectrometer at the CERN PS during the period 1971/1972. Operational experiences are communicated.
