description The two halves of the Forward Hadronic Calorimeter (HF) were transported from the CERN Meyrin site to the surface assembly hall at LHC Point 5 in Cessy, France, during the first part of July. Transporting these 300 tonne objects involved the construction around them of a 65-metre long trailer, simultaneously pushed and pulled by two trucks at either end. The main road between St. Genis and Cessy was closed during these operations and a police escort was provided for the ~5 hour journeys. The two HF halves will be the first major elements to be lowered by the gantry crane into the underground experimental cavern around the end of July or beginning of August.
