Sumario:The analysis of the competitiveness of tomato production in the state of Oaxaca, Central Valley region, is important, as it is one of the first places in the production of the zone, the objective was to analyze the competitiveness, costs of production, and profitability of producers. In the analysis, the method of competitiveness indicator developed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA, 2000) was used, the data were obtained by means of the application of surveys to tomato producers of Santiago Matatlán during the period from March to May 2020.The study zone registers the most significant production surface of the region, based on the information obtained the costs, income and profitability indicators were analyzed, it was found that 100 % of the surveyed producers earn more income than their costs. The competitiveness indicator price-cost was 2.06, so the results show that the tomato cultivation is competitive in relation to investments and the costs incurred in production.
