description This research presents a mobile application as a tool to motivate the learning of the hierarchy of mathematical signs through games. The mobile application was provided to a group of fifth grade children from a public school located in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico; a control group with traditional teaching mechanisms and an experimental group using the mobile application were considered, both with the task of solving problems of hierarchy of signs. Thus, the objective of this research was to identify the elements that intervene in the motivation of learning the hierarchy of mathematical signs through a mobile application. It was concluded that the use of mobile applications as a learning tool is enriching and attractive for children who expressed a high motivation to learn through games.

En esta investigación se presenta una aplicación móvil como herramienta para motivar el aprendizaje de la jerarquización de signos matemáticos a través de juegos. La aplicación móvil se proporcionó a un grupo de niños de quinto grado de primaria de una escuela pública ubicada en Xalapa, Veracruz, México; se consideró un grupo de control con los mecanismos de enseñanza tradicionales y uno de experimentación a través del uso de la aplicación móvil, ambos con la tarea de solucionar problemas de jerarquización de signos. De esta manera, el objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar los elementos que intervienen en la motivación del aprendizaje de la jerarquización de signos matemáticas a través de una aplicación móvil. Se concluyó que el uso de aplicaciones móviles, como herramienta de aprendizaje, resulta enriquecedor y atractivo para los niños quienes expresaron una motivación alta por aprender a través de juegos.
