Se busca comprender cómo se despliega cognoscitivamente la lectura a través del campo bibliotecológico, principalmente en la educación y la investigación, para lo cual se implementan los conceptos mediadores, intermediadores y traducción del sociólogo Bruno Latour. Los intermediadores consisten en las acciones que transportan contenidos sin que sufran cambios; así, la lectura concebida como intermediador ha predominado en el campo bibliotecológico y además está determinada por la objetividad. Los mediadores transforman la significación de sus contenidos al pasar por la traducción. La lectura como mediador conlleva la transformación de la información en conocimiento diferente o nuevo al ser traducido por mediación del planteamiento de problemas y preguntas al texto, lo cual propicia una lectura signada por la subjetividad y que puede constituirse en factor de transformación cognoscitiva del campo bibliotecológico.
