Carbamazepine-Induced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Overlap Treated Successfully with Oral Cyclosporin: Case report and literature review
Stevens Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are acute life-threatening mucocutaneous drug reactions. Several therapies have been used in the treatment of SJS/TEN but none of them have yet been established as the gold standard treatment. Studies have shown that cyclosporine (C...

description | Stevens Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are acute life-threatening mucocutaneous drug reactions. Several therapies have been used in the treatment of SJS/TEN but none of them have yet been established as the gold standard treatment. Studies have shown that cyclosporine (CsA) can be used off-label in TEN/SJS, which has shown promising therapeutic effectiveness in such diseases. Here we report a 38-year-old woman who presented to Ar Rustaq Hospital, Rustaq, Oman in 2019 with SJS/TEN overlap and was treated successfully with CsA along with supportive management. This case report also includes a literature review on the use of CsA in the treatment of SJS/TEN. |
