Carbamazepine-Induced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Overlap Treated Successfully with Oral Cyclosporin: Case report and literature review

Stevens Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are acute life-threatening mucocutaneous drug reactions. Several therapies have been used in the treatment of SJS/TEN but none of them have yet been established as the gold standard treatment. Studies have shown that cyclosporine (C...

description Stevens Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are acute life-threatening mucocutaneous drug reactions. Several therapies have been used in the treatment of SJS/TEN but none of them have yet been established as the gold standard treatment. Studies have shown that cyclosporine (CsA) can be used off-label in TEN/SJS, which has shown promising therapeutic effectiveness in such diseases. Here we report a 38-year-old woman who presented to Ar Rustaq Hospital, Rustaq, Oman in 2019 with SJS/TEN overlap and was treated successfully with CsA along with supportive management. This case report also includes a literature review on the use of CsA in the treatment of SJS/TEN.
